The follow-up to his mega-hit ‘Time to Rise’

Following up on his smash hit ‘Time to Rise,’ Cambodian rapper VannDa is wasting no time basking in his fame, and has just released his first solo track of the year, ‘Catch Me If You Can.’

The track is built on catchy, Asian chords, with VannDa’s stoic rhymes over an uptempo Trap beat. ‘Catch Me if You Can’ sounds familiar, and yet avoids cliches with an interesting arrangement and his rapid-fire bars that are so smooth they sound like he’s not even trying. Written and produced by himself, VannDa chose to do something completely different than ‘Time to Rise,’ which is brave because it worked so well last time. ‘Catch Me If You Can’ still pays homage to his roots with the track’s Eastern melody, and clocking in at over six minutes, you can’t say he isn’t ambitious.

‘Catch Me if You Can’ also comes with an action-packed video that features VannDa as a smooth thief a la heist films like Catch Me If You Can or The Italian Job. With a bespoke black suit and sharp pork pie hat, VannDa pulls stunts and tricks to fool three undercover cops while always keeping them guessing. Ultimately it’s a video within a video, as we see they are all on the same set, but it works. The video is also full of pop references - the black suit and red tie from the popular game Hitman, a body switch ruse from Catch Me If You Can, car chase scenes from The Italian Job, crystal skulls from Indiana Jones, and notably the dummy off the roof scene from Beastie Boys hilarious Sabotage video. It’s like a film short and even has a beautiful accomplice. Well worth a watch!
