There are a whole lot of dope releases coming out of Japan this year, from nostalgic beats and flows, off-kilter sounds, and House instrumentals, to outright Drill heaters. One thing that stands out from the Land of the Rising Sun’s Hip Hop circuit is that everyone is doing things differently, resulting in a whole lot of flavors to indulge in.

On June 3, Japanese MCs Real-T and 孫GONG dropped a brand new collab ‘KATA.’ It’s hard-to-the-core-Drill, which was produced by FEZBEATZ. When you hear that undulating bassline of a Drill beat, you’d immediately anticipate the MCs to go aggressive and hard. However, Real-T and 孫GONG strip away from that notion completely.

Real-T opens up the track with a composed, and almost monotonous flow, gliding through his entire verse with it. 孫GONG picks up the energy and pace on its second verse, but the aggression is controlled as he sprays a brilliant 16 in Japanese. The release was also accompanied by a music video by Dex Filmz, which features the two rappers and their crew eating well and enjoying the life of being Rap stars.
