Epik High has been around the K-hop block many times. They have just announced they are releasing their 10th [!!!] album, Epik High is Here [Part 2], to firmly plant themselves in the middle of the new golden era. With this announcement of the album dropping in early 2022 came the release of their first single, ‘Face ID,’ a smasher that celebrates getting these MF-ing masks off our faces with a lineup of the hottest of the hot Korean rappers GIRIBOY, Sik-K, and JUSTHIS.

In a press release, Epik High poses the question, “What is a ‘real’ face, really, when deep fakes have become frighteningly authentic and whatever we end up calling the metaverse will most certainly be populated with ape and cat heads?” We’re not sure exactly what to make of this statement, as it’s all over the place, but we know ‘Face ID’ is top-notch.

The video takes us straight to Epik High’s metaverse where nothing is what it seems. There are dancing skeletons, 3D renderings of heads, slick beat changes, and of course a meat chair. It’s wildly inventive and right where the world is heading. The song matches the video as being all the way out there, but sometimes quickly snapping back into reality.

With a song like ‘Face ID,’ Epik High is welcomed back with open arms.
