Dim Sum Down-low: Karencici gives a crash course in social media
“You have the freedom to create whatever you want based on whatever you like.”
What do you do besides music? LiFTED takes the long-loved afternoon talks at a dim sum joint in Asia to get the scoop of what artists enjoy besides making music in Dim Sum Down-low. This month, our spotlight shines on Panthepack’s Karencici and her social media tips.
Social media has become a dominant part of everyday life in 2022. The great thing is that this technology offers us connectivity and convenience. The bad part is that probably everyone nowadays spends too much time online.
For up-and-coming artists like Karencici, who is one-quarter of the Asian Hip Hop supergroup Panthepack, [“I learned so much from all the members and I feel like I’ve grown a lot with my artistry because of this project”] social media is extremely important because it’s a free platform for promotion and a way to contact her fans directly. “You have the freedom to create whatever you want based on whatever you like.”

I think it’s important to find something that represents you as an artist, something that shows your style, talent, and personality. Make sure your content is unique and it stands out from all the other content on the internet.
BUILD YOUR OWN FOLLOWING
As an artist signed to a label you kind of start out thinking everything is taken care of for you but then you kind of realize when it comes to promotions for your music there’s only so much your label can do. So that’s why it’s important for artists to build up their own platforms and following.
BE COMFORTABLE WITH YOUR OWN CONTENT
It’s best when you are comfortable with your content, so don’t try to do something just because it's trending. Your content represents your style and brand so make sure it suits your aesthetic. When you’re making your own content, you’ve gotta make sure you actually like what you’re doing, or else people can tell that you’re just jumping on the bandwagon.
DON’T BE AFRAID OF BEING PERSONAL
Don’t be afraid to get too personal. People like to see real emotions and different sides of you, so just be you! It’s important to connect with your audience, so short vlogs and clips of you doing stuff behind the scenes are great! Pro Tip: I love using the Q & A feature on Instagram Stories to interact with my fans. Simple things like that can make them feel closer to you.
Lastly, just have fun! Don’t take it too seriously. There are always haters that will try to take you down. Don’t mind them, focus on what you love and the people that love you.
LEARN HOW TO DO IT YOURSELF
Another great tip is to learn how to edit everything yourself. It saves money and you can get it exactly the way you want it. So go on YouTube and learn how to make beats or edit videos. It’s all there so there’s no excuse. If you can do all the behind-the-scenes stuff yourself, it’ll save you a lot of time.
