Swedish House Mafia remixes Kallax for IKEA

All in all, 20 home items have been retouched by the band

When you first think of Swedish House Mafia, what comes to mind? The mega-producers who got Pharrell on their gigantic single ‘One’? Two headlining shows with The Weeknd at Coachella? How about furniture production?

IKEA is well-known for its cheap but usable self-assembly furniture. For vinyl enthusiasts, their Kallax shelves are very useful for being the perfect size to store albums. This week, IKEA announced that Swedish House Mafia will be remixing their furniture with the would-be DJ or music producer in mind.

“With this collaboration, we wanted to essentially create what our younger selves would’ve wanted and help people like our younger selves afford cool equipment as they dive into being a music producer,” said Steve Angello, one-third of Swedish House Mafia, to the press.

Their collection - OBEGRÄNSAD meaning unlimited in Swedish - will be released in October and has more than 20 items. Most are matte black, the color of the moment for in-home producers or collectors, and are focused on functionality. There are armchairs, desks with room for monitor speakers, clocks, blankets to cover equipment when not in use, record bags, and even rugs for the studio.

Most importantly, the Kallax shelving units are very close to the same as they have been for many years. The only remix that Swedish House Mafia has done was adding an extra open drawer on the top to store things like CDs, tapes, magazines, or MPCs that DJs would have on other shelves.
