Usually held in February, because of the COVID-19 situation in the US, the Grammys were moved to April, which was a week after the Oscars. Thankfully, there was not one incident that everyone talked about. The 64th Grammy Awards had its share of moving speeches and move-the-crowd performances.
Jon Batiste won the big one - Album of the Year - and had two stirring performances during the show. Silk Sonic, Anderson .Paak and Bruno Mars’ big collab, also had a big night winning Song of the Year and Record of the Year for ‘Leave the Door Open.’
For the four Hip Hop categories, LiFTED predictions went one for four. We called Tyler winning Best Rap Album, but we whiffed on Kanye winning two Grammys [‘Jail’ for Best Rap Song with Marylin Manson and Jay-Z, as well as ‘Hurricane’ for Best Melodic Rap Performance with The Weeknd and Lil Baby] since he has urinated on a Grammy statue and was banned from this year’s show. We also picked Cardi B’s ‘Up’ as the winner for Best Rap Performance when Baby Keem and Kendrick Lamar won for ‘Family Ties.’ It’s always good to see Kung Fu Kenny pick up any hardware, so maybe that will motivate him to get this new album out.
