Joe Flizzow’s legacy in Malaysian Hip Hop is not something anyone will ever question. The MC who’s often dubbed as one of the pioneering figures of the rap scene in Malaysia, on top of being aptly nicknamed The President, has been a leading light ever since he came on the scene with his then partner, Malique, as Too Phat.

Fast forward some 20-odd years later, Flizzow is still at the forefront of all things related to Hip Hop. Not only is he the head of Def Jam Recordings Southeast Asia, but he has also created platforms for burgeoning rappers to showcase their talent. One of them is 16 Baris, a Rap cypher show where MCs from all over Asia spit 16 bars in a barbershop owned by Flizzow.

And most recently, he performed his latest single ‘Satu Malam Di Temasek’ with SonaOne at Anugerah Juara Lagu [AJL] – an annual competition by Malaysia’s TV3 to crown the best musical and lyrical compositions of the year. We can’t think of a better MC to perform at such a prestigious event besides The President himself.

Flizzow and SonaOne absolutely tore up the performance of their collaborative single. The duo is backed by backup dancers all dressed in white, along with stage designs of what looks like tombstones, which alludes to a line on the track’s iconic chorus – “Imma be an hour late to my funeral.”
