FLOW G morphs into a superhero combating laziness in ‘BATUGAN’
He’s handing out headslaps like they are going out of style
We all want to improve and be better versions of ourselves when the new year starts, but sticking to it is the hard part. Filipino rapper FLOW G kicks off 2022 with a strong new single ‘BATUGAN,’ a spicy Trap workout featuring his signature mile-a-minute flow. The moral of the story is don't be lazy [‘batugan’] and his superhero character, complete with tight white suit, blinged-out accessories, and fake muscles, is here to keep you in line.
Humor aside, FLOW G is known to be one of the most diligent rappers in the Philippine Rap game, whose work ethic is admired by his legions of fans. This song is all about quitting your vices and being a productive member of society. ‘BATUGAN’ sits on a dope Flip-D Trap beat that opens with a staccato trumpet line and when the bass drops, Flow G leans in with his rhyme, urging listeners to work hard and never rely on dumb luck. It’s a message that will resonate with many Filipinos.
In the video, Flow G goes the extra mile, as he transforms himself into a superhero called Super G. Complete white suit and cape, Flow G takes down many of society’s unproductive villains - domestic abusers, street gamblers and lazy drunks. It could have come off as cringe-y [nobody wants to be preached at], and parodying a superhero on a limited budget has its obvious limitations. But Flow G plays it off, and he means it, but you know behind his serious expression he’s well aware he’s mocking the genre.
Since his 2020 debut, Flow G has quickly risen to the top of the game with his rapid-fire, charismatic rhymes. His crew Ex Battalion had the 3rd-most viewed music video of the Philippines in 2021, marking it the only Rap group that made it into the top 10.
