On the Season 2 premiere of ‘Awkwafina is Nora From Queens’ on Comedy Central, the first thing that the audience hears is Bohan Phoenix’s feel-good 2018 anthem ‘BBSSYYGG’ produced by Harikiri. He’s rapping a bit of gibberish mixed with slang on the chorus with the lyrics “Bang bang, skr skr, yah yah, gang gang,” but it fits in perfectly with the stoner comedic stylings of Awkwafina, the show’s writer and star.

Awkwafina stars as Nora Lin in an autobiographical sitcom about her time growing up with her father, cousin, and grandmother in Queens, New York. The first season of the show outgrew its comparisons to Eddie Huang’s ‘Fresh Off the Boat’ with upbeat humor mixed with weed jokes and bizarre family situations.

On Instagram, Bohan Phoenix gave a shout out to Awkwafina for the song placement and wondered why there hasn’t been a TikTok dance to it yet. Knowing social media, this will be coming up very soon.

On a final note, it’s always great to see two Asian creatives who are slaying it in their respective professions get together and find a way to boost each other’s work.
