Yuki Chiba finds peace of mind in Thailand on ‘Mahiiya’

Even Asia’s busiest rapper needs some down time

Last week, Yuki Chiba stitched together all three Korean remixes of ‘Annyeonghaseyo’ with Lil Moshpit, Sik-K, BLASÉ, RYUL of LNGSHOT, and Jay Park for a wild video rollout that reminded everyone just how global his movement has become. Later this month, he’ll hit the stage at Blue Note Jazz Club before heading to the ZIPANGU, the Japanese Festival at the Rose Bowl alongside ATARASHII GAKKO!, CHANMINA, and more. The man does not stop moving.

Somewhere between the flights and festival appearances, Yuki found time to disappear into Thailand for his latest single, ‘Mahiiya.’ Roughly translating to “Oh Well,” the track trades pressure for peace as Yuki cruises through tropical scenery on a boat, lounges on a giant pizza floatie, and even washes elephants at a sanctuary.

In real life, Yuki is one of the busiest MCs in Asia because staying ahead means constantly leveling up. But ‘Mahiiya’ feels like a rare exhale. Instead of flexing ambition, Yuki lets himself drift for a moment before another summer packed with chaos, stages, and passport stamps kicks into full gear.
