Warren Hue shows his comfort with solitude in ‘TENNESSEE’

A spacey R&B jam from the Indonesian MC

LiFTED | Sabiq Rafid | 4 Jul 2023

Warren Hue’s 2022 was one for the books. Just like the name of his last album suggests, he was BOY OF THE YEAR. 88rising's young Indonesian MC made waves – performing at Coachella, linking up with some of the best burgeoning names, and all around killing it while making a nice slot on the LiFTED 50.

It seemed that it all took a toll on Warren Hue, especially considering the fact that he had not released anything new since then. After all, it’s always best to take a step back to recuperate after a wild ride. But now, it feels like he’s back and ready to go again.

His newest jam produced by frequent contributor Chasu, ‘TENNESSEE’, arrived on all streaming platforms recently. If there’s anything we’ve learned from Warren Hue, it's that it’s impossible to box him to a specific sound or genre because he’s multidimensional. For his latest offering, he goes deep into a spacey R&B production and absolutely glides over it.

Warren said about the single in a press release, “‘TENNESSEE’ is a song I wrote during a time in my life when I had a lot going on in my mind, ghting my inner thoughts. It’s a song about trying to rediscover who I am as a person in a tough period of my life, blocking out what people were trying to tell me to do or say. It’s one of my most personal and introspective songs I’ve released so far.”

Lyrically, the Indonesian MC touches on the themes of finding one’s self and how messy it all can be. A brilliant music video shot in one night in NYC, was also shared on the same day of the track’s release, showcasing Warren in the darkest of hues, grooving out to the track’s infectious beat and showing his comfort in solitude.
