Korea to host ¥$’s Vultures listening session on August 23
Like anything he does, Ye’s show is sure to cause a lot of mayhem
Less than a month ago, LiFTED reported that Ye’s creative director Austin Taylor was in Korea looking at stadiums to have a Vultures listening session. Now, according to Ty Dolla $ign’s social media, that event will happen on August 23.
Collectively and symbolically known as ¥$, Dolla $ign and the artist formerly known as Kanye West recently put out Vultures 1, an 18-track album that went to number one on Billboard’s Hot 100 and featured Ye’s daughter North West as well as a ton of other guest stars like Freddie Gibbs, James Blake, Kid Cudi, Playboi Carti, Future, Young Thug, Charlie Wilson, Quavo, Chris Brown, YG, Bump J, Lil Durk, and Leon Bridges.
The album is a return to form for Ye, who had been mired in a slump with a lot of his recent releases, even though his lyrics seem like they are mostly freestyle and lack the intricacies of the ‘Old Kanye’ work. Ye’s production and Dolla $ign’s smooth R&B delivery carry a lot of the album.
Once getting ready for the drop, ¥$ announced Vultures listening sessions, where instead of performing the album, the aux cord is playing the album and guests walk around lip-syncing it. While the genius of Ye has been shown in many forms, these listening sessions seem to be a deconstruction of live shows. At Rolling Loud California earlier this year, ¥$ announced they were added to the show and many people were disappointed that they didn’t perform and had a listening session instead.
Also, Ye has moved the dates of album releases on whims, canceled shows the day before just because, and more. There was supposed to be another Vultures album and six stadiums were booked in the US and canceled almost immediately. It’s exciting that a Vultures listening session is coming to Asia but be aware that things can change instantly.
