Singer-songwriter Vuize王鍾惟 was raised in a family who spoke Hakka, a seven-tone language spoken by some of Taiwan’s indigenous people that is disappearing. In second grade, he learned to play guitar and started to like Rock N Roll and Metal, but then he got on the basketball court and found a love for Hip Hop. Vuize wanted to help the next generation remember Hakka so he started recording music in his mother tongue. This led to his making GO MODE in 2022, which was written from the perspective of a Hip Hop student group and he ended up getting nominated for Best Hakka Singer at the 34th Golden Melody Awards.

After Vuize stepped off the red carpet and the cameras stopped flashing, he had to return to the reality of normal life, and this is where ‘Inception’ comes in. The song is a stream-of-consciousness Rap about the challenges faced by people pursuing success but also trying not to get swallowed up by fame and desire.

In the press release, Vuize explains, “The lyrics echo the concept of the movie, expressing that our brains seem to have been implanted with some kind of idea unconsciously. As time goes by, the seedlings gradually take root. When I look back, I am already trapped in the never-ending competition. However, the reason behind why I am so eager to succeed has long been forgotten, so I want to explore it through this song.”

With a trippy 3D video modeled after what is inside Vuize’s mind, ‘Inception’ must be watched and listened to see how the world intertwines in his brain.
