VTEN reps for Nepalese Hip Hop with the ultraviolet ‘JYO JYO’
The graphic video comes with a warning
Butchers have been in Hip Hop from the start. Kool G Rap made a song called ‘Butcher Shop’ in 1995, while Benny the Butcher from Rap heavyweights Griselda has been on that grimy and gritty ish since 2018. Those butchers never got as bloody and gruesome as Nepalese rapper VTEN gets on his latest ‘JYO JYO.’
To ring in 2025, VTEN starts the video with a stark warning that what you are going to see is going to be explicit. He delivers on the warning from the beginning as he’s in a butcher shop taking chops at a pig while blood is splashing all over the place. Nearby, there’s a meth lab and a fight club happening, all adding to the atmosphere.
Halfway through, the beat flips, and VTEN goes to even darker places in his lyrics, his soul, and in the video. He raps from the back of the butcher shop where most people don’t get to see. It’s dark and dingy, and there might be some people trapped in cages back there.
While ‘JYO JYO’ doesn’t bring much joy for the new year, VTEN does show that Nepalese Hip Hop has a wildly creative side that people won’t soon forget.
