It’s the rapper & singer’s first single after a brief hiatus

Being a rapper first, singer second, and actress third, Malaysia’s Zizi Kirana is a woman of many talents. Initially finding her footing in the music industry through the reality TV competition Akademi Fantasia and then the Hip Hop group The Fabulous Cats, Zizi has managed to hone her skills for nearly a decade and a half now. Her solo career following these stints shows a mastery over her strengths - being able to flow seamlessly between her rapping and singing. ‘PIJAK’, her latest single, continues this showcase and is another magnificent addition to her growing discography.

The single follows her previous ballad-heavy releases ‘Ramadhan’ with Hafiz Hamidun and ‘Purnama’ with Unic. Often heralded as one of the most exciting emcees of the country, it’s exciting to see her return to a pure Hip Hop sound. On ‘PIJAK’, Zizi sounds as hungry as ever, aggressively setting the stakes for the track as she warns anyone and everyone to not ‘step’ over her [which is what Pijak means in English.] Despite her background as a religious teacher, Zizi’s venomous bars still pack as potent of a punch as any of her contemporaries - proving how far she’s come as an emcee that can hold her own.

In the track’s music video, she dons a black leather-clad outfit while rapping in a traditional Malaysian stilt house before moving on to a fully-decorated Muslim grab adorned in flashy jewelery - an attention-grabbing fit that perfectly shows her captivating personality.
