In the mid-2000s, Snap music had a brief moment of time in the spotlight. Somewhat along the bloodlines of Crunk music from Atlanta, Snap music simply replaced the traditional snare drums with finger snaps. At the peak, songs like ‘Laffy Taffy,’ by D4L ‘Snap Yo Fingers’ by Lil Jon, ‘It’s Goin’ Down’ by Young Joc, and ‘Crank That’ by Soulja Boy Tell ‘Em were all over the charts and getting a lot of play in the clubs.

Since everything is throwing back to Y2K these days, Taichung, Taiwan’s Multiverse Music is bringing back Snap music with their latest ‘‘我家門前有小河,’ which translates to “There’s a small river in front of my house.”

True to its title, the video is set in a glamping area near a river. The five MCs–Yappy, EyeballRay, SheATH, DREW & Macdella–turn into jungle warriors by the river. Since it’s cold with no snow, the rappers are decked out in down jackets and hoodies. They are flowing in hiking areas, on river banks, and around an evening fire. For the second verse, the snaps turn into claps for the beat switch and the rappers get to ride on the owner’s tractor and shoot some fireworks causing minimal amounts of chaos.

Multiverse Music shows why the Hip Hop game is missing rap groups. With each MC having distinct flavor and this snappy beat, ‘我家門前有小河’ demands repeat views.
