LiFTED tries to stay on top of new Asian heat when it drops, with eyes and ears across the region, but sometimes dope joints fall through the cracks. Anyone would be forgiven for not catching MHA’s [Myanmar Hip Hop Association] latest, ‘Knockout,’ due to the fact that the scene there is still pretty underground, and they’re in the middle of a civil war. But the real MCs in the game are still getting new tracks out, and in this case, it’s a collection of OGs who loosely team up under the name MHA.
All seven rappers, Lan Bar, MR. Luffie, Zwe Thet Paing, Shyne Mon, Bu Thee, DR. SAI LAY, and G-Tone, have been doing it for a minute now and are well-known to Hip Hop heads in Myanmar. ‘Knockout’ is essentially a bar-for-bar workout over a dope, eerie Trap beat by G-Tone and DR. SAI LAY. Everyone eats on this one, and their flow never lets up for a second. All these guys have juice, as the video already has over a million views on YouTube. That’s incredible for a small country going through a brutal civil war. The video was presented by I Am Hip Hop and it’s production values are higher than a lot of DIY videos we’ve seen around the globe. It’s safe to assume that the military government isn’t a big fan of Hip Hop, and indeed the MCs throw up a lot of middle fingers in the video. But that’s what Hip Hop is all about.
