In Singapore, the female dancehall collective Ragga Waka runs the Artistic Expression through Dancehall [AED] program. Earlier this year, the crew held a week-long boot camp that taught newbies and those well-versed in dance expressive freedom with workshops, mentorship, and collabs with global artists. They brought in acclaimed choreographer Laure Courtellemont, who has worked with superstars like Chris Brown, Cardi B, and Will Smith, and she pushed everyone beyond their limits.

The end result is Masia One’s ‘Check Yo Levels’ CNFMUS Remix, which features a dope sample of Bounty Killer. The video is 100 percent pure energy from the Far East Empress and the dance crew from the get-go. As soon as the elevator door pops open, it’s on. Masia pops out looking fly as always in her red ushanka. She brings that Singaporean dancehall energy that no one else has. The dancers of Raga Waka, a mix of first-timers and seasoned professionals, strut their stuff and show why the tutelage of Laure Courtellemont is an important step in their transformative process.
