LiFTED Lounge kicked off in Hong Kong with Bohan Phoenix [Gallery]
Soho House Hong Kong party also featured Novel Friday & Monsta Kei
On June 21, LiFTED launched our new LiFTED Lounge series at Soho House Hong Kong. For the opener we went full circle and tapped our first-ever cover star, Bohan Phoenix, to rock the mic. He turned in an electric set that included most of his hits plus his recent red-hot track ‘No Chain,’ The Rap of China diss track that had the audience rapping along. Opening the show was Hong Kong’s Novel Friday, who set the stage perfectly with his Emo-yet-energetic Auto-Tuned rhymes that got the hometown crowd bugging out. Novel Friday is in a really interesting space right now, with spacey, almost psychedelic tracks that build around Trap grooves, but can also get hard and funky. He performed a bunch of tracks from his latest album, Like Jade.
Bohan Phoenix was in control from the moment he jumped on the stage. He opened with an a capella and let the crowd know they were witnessing a real lyricist. As an MC who cut his teeth in New York’s competitive open mic circuit, Bohan knows how to freestyle and battle. But at LiFTED Lounge, he was just letting the crowd hear his lyrics, like when he started his hit song ‘Overseas’ as an a capella and then had DJ Monsta Kei drop the beat in, with the crowd going nuts as he jumped all over the stage. With generous support from R&B HOURS, Jagermeister, and Devil’s Tea, the joint was truly jumping along with him. LiFTED also debuted our new KANGOL x LiFTED Bermuda Bucket hats, and a few lucky partiers got one. Hit us up in the DMs if you want one, too! We’ll be giving a few away to lucky readers.
