A budding solo career places a lot of pressure on an artist to separate themselves from the brand they’ve set for themselves. Especially when you put yourself in the shoes of Felip, from the renowned P-pop group SB19.
Since emerging as a solo artist, Felip has consistently crafted releases that are entire worlds built with care and precision. His debut album, 7sins, continues this tradition by exploring the inner workings of the singer-rapper's mind, exploring his wrongdoings and desires under a tsunami of genre-bending sounds.
"I’m the type of person who finds it difficult to express myself through words in interviews or in conversations. So, I write songs about my feelings and observations. Through this album, I just want to say that we are all human—we make mistakes," Felip shared with Billboard Philippines.
7sins is a nine-track album that represents the seven deadly sins—envy, wrath, greed, pride, gluttony, lust, and sloth—and the emotions associated with each. The journey culminates with ‘Ache,’ a track that addresses redemption, leaving listeners with a bittersweet sense of melancholy and hope.
Felip's collaborative spirit shines through in this album, featuring contributions from Belgian singer-songwriter Cyra Gwynth and PLAYERTWO's Luke April. The track ‘Lust’ sees Gwynth's evocative vocals complementing Felip's introspective lyrics, while ‘Gluttony’ benefits from PLAYERTWO's eccentric sound. This is not Felip's first collaboration with PLAYERTWO, having previously worked with the group on the hit singles ‘FLYYY’ and ‘Pagdali.’
"As an artist, I just keep experimenting and exploring. I’m not afraid to try new things, and I think that’s also the highlight of this album—the diversity and emotions that come out of the songs," Felip explained. The album, which took seven months to complete, showcases his versatility and willingness to push the boundaries of his artistry.
