KOAD celebrates this two main influences in ‘bollywood and hip hop’

Punjabi samples, 808s & pure maximalist energy collide

Last summer, KOAD caught LiFTED’s attention with ‘dirty,’ a sharp critique of anti-South Asian racism that featured the unforgettable line: “You like the food but you hate the chef.”

Now the rapper/producer is back with ‘bollywood and hip hop,’ a loud, chaotic, and proudly over-the-top celebration of the two worlds that shaped him. Sampling the playful Punjabi classic ‘Lathe Di Chadar,’ KOAD flips tradition into a bass-heavy anthem packed with rattling 808s, garba-inspired percussion, and a full-throttle party atmosphere.

Nothing about the track is subtle. Gunshot effects crack through the beat while KOAD delivers quick-witted bars about diaspora identity and growing up disconnected from the homeland in a sequined pink lehenga. The visuals keep that same energy, mixing South Asian aesthetics with distinctly American party culture including convertibles full of dancers, liquor shots, and unapologetic swagger everywhere you look.

Rather than trying to fit neatly into one scene, KOAD leans fully into the messiness of cultural crossover. ‘bollywood and hip hop’ feels big, flashy, and intentionally excessive—exactly the way it’s supposed to.
