Indian-American rapper KOAD gets mad quotable in his single, ‘dirty,’ which takes on racist tropes about South Asians head-on. Straight from the jump, KOAD samples kids talking about the racism they’ve experienced, saying things like “They love our clothes, though” and “You like the food but hate the chef.”
Once the violin-heavy beat by CONNIE hits, KOAD starts with a whisper Rap, “I’m a clean MFer, but I’m dirty.’ It’s a tongue-in-cheek take on how idiotic the racist narratives actually are. For nearly three minutes, KOAD gets his point across.
In the video, KOAD and his crew are dancing around a farm and having a good time until one Karen pops into the picture and tries to appropriate the culture with an Indian dress and dance. The beat stops, the Karen gets yanked out of the scene, and then the beat goes on. It’s a perfect gag for the whole song that has an important point to make in a very entertaining way.
