Juan Jumalon, known to many in the Philippines as DJ Johnny Walker, was hosting his radio show from his home early on Sunday morning when a perpetrator busted in and shot him in the face. Juan was pronounced dead at the hospital soon after.

The long-time journalist and radio host was livestreaming his show from his home when the invasion happened. The attacker also stole his gold before fleeing onto a motorcycle driven by an accomplice outside. This is the fourth media personality that has been killed since June of 2022 when Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. was elected president. In a statement, Marcos said, “Attacks on journalists will not be tolerated in our democracy, and those who threaten the freedom of the press will face the full consequences of their actions.“

Three suspects have been identified, according to the local authorities, and they are investigating motives related to the DJ’s show as well as his personal affairs.
