‘G6’ gets a Jersey makeover with Blasé, Coogie, oygli & Jay Park
It’s really good to see Jay Park rapping again
In 2010, right before the wave of EDM took over, the Far East Movement [The Cataracts and Dev] had a big moment with ‘Like a G6,’ and it never really stopped. It feels like 2010 all over again as The Cataracts are releasing new music and ‘G6’ is in the news again. Last year, Megan Thee Stallion got busy with a freestyle over the beat, and the song ended up on her album. This week, Blasé Jersey-ed up the song and brought some friends along to rap over it, namely Coogie, oygli, and Jay Park.
The thing about making a classic beat is that it never really goes out of style. While people might say they hate ‘Low’ by Flo Rida, those same people drop it really low when the song comes on. ‘Like a G6’ is 125 beats per minute, so it’s easy to speed it up a bit, add a few Jersey gallops, and then it feels even more modern.
Blasé starts the track, and there’s a bit of an English accent in his voice. It’s hard to tell if that’s Central Cee inspired or the real thing, but it’s interesting. oygli and Coogie rip the beat then at the end, Jay Park comes in for a guest slot. For the last little bit, Jay has been on his R&B tip, so it’s great to hear him drop some bars again. The Asian Hip Hop fans need a bit more Hip Hop from the Godfather.
