Edison Chen has a US$126 million Nike problem

The founder of CLOT has been working with Adidas a lot lately

In 2004, Edison Chen founded CLOT, a homegrown Asian streetwear brand. Within a few years, the big dogs came calling, and he worked in partnership with Nike from 2006. Soon, CLOT was a global brand recognized for its eye for detail and fondness of Eastern aesthetics. That collaboration ended in 2023, and Edison has been doing drops with Adidas since. This has ruffled the feathers at Nike and they recently sued him for US$126 claiming contract breach.

Over 17 years with Nike, Edison and CLOT worked on 30 different sneakers. With Adidas over the past two years, the collab has produced nearly 20 sneakers. In recent years, Nike has become more vigilant with their lawsuits over intellectual property. They made news going after BAPE as well as the Shoe Surgeon. This is the first time that Nike has ever filed suit against a former collaborator.
