DMC World DJ Championships celebrate 40th anniversary in Tokyo
Three days in October are sure to go down in history
Over the past 40 years, some of the finest DJs in the world have come from Japan to win the DMC World Championship. In 2002, DJ Kentaro did a mind-boggling set and became a global superstar. In 2012 and 2016, DJ Izoh and DJ Yuta won. In 2017, 12-year-old DJ Rena became the youngest person ever to win. In 2019, DJ Matsunaga from Creepy Nuts won the Battle for World Supremacy. And Kireek, a DJ duo composed of DJ YASA and DJ HI-C won the Team Championship five times in a row, a feat never done before or since.
With that fascinating history, the DMC World DJ Championships will hold their 40th anniversary in Tokyo, Japan on October 10 to 12. There will be battles. There will be new technology released. History will be made.
The DMC World DJ Championships have been instrumental in launching the careers of numerous turntable maestros. Besides Japan, other notable champions include DJ Craze, A-Trak, Cash Money, DJ Kentaro, Mix Master Mike, Roc Raida, and many more. The 40th- anniversary event is expected to continue this tradition, with competitors pushing the boundaries of creativity and technical prowess.
