Back in 2021, LiFTED wondered if Diamond MQT was aiming to become Thailand’s Wiz Khalifa. At the time, we covered his video ‘She Needs Smoke’ and asked whether Thailand might be on its way to becoming the Amsterdam of Asia.

Four years later, a lot has changed. After COVID-19, marijuana was legalized and tourists began flocking back to the Land of Smiles to take advantage of the country’s famously relaxed cannabis laws. At the same time, massive international festivals such as Rolling Loud and EDC arrived in Thailand, bringing even more global attention to the country’s music scene.

During that same stretch, Diamond MQT has been steadily putting in work. He’s become something of an everyman MC—low-key in style but massive in reach. His releases consistently rack up huge numbers, and his YouTube channel has quietly climbed to nearly two million subscribers who eagerly wait for his next drop.

His latest release, the Jazzy Boom Bap track ‘คืนสุดท้าย [Till the Last Night],’ shows exactly why.

The video captures a laid-back day in Samut Prakan as Diamond MQT hangs out with friends at home and makes a quick stop at the local 7-ELEVEn. He plays video games, chills with his crew, and even lets his cat steal a moment of the spotlight.

Meanwhile, Thailand’s marijuana industry is entering a new phase. After the early Wild West days of legalization, regulations are tightening and the frenzy is cooling down. Diamond MQT reflects that shift as well. The green haze that dominated ‘She Needs Smoke’ is still present here, but it’s no longer the main character.

If you’ve followed Wiz Khalifa’s career arc, that evolution might feel familiar. And maybe—just maybe—the answer to that old question is finally yes: Diamond MQT might really be walking the Wiz route after all.
