Chrissy Chou wins Red Bull Taiwan’s Dance Your Style [Gallery]
The victory sends her to South Africa for the world finals
Red Bull’s Dance Your Style is not a Bboy/Bgirl event, even though a lot of Bboys and Bgirls attend. Instead, it's a mixed, all-style solo battle where the DJs job is to throw curveballs at the dancers and make them turn the crowd up to any style of music. DJ Afuro George did just that by dropping Mando-Pop, Asian Hip-Hop, dubstep, and even KPop.
Sixteen dancers started off the event full of one-on-one battles. The crowd at Maji Square was the judge as each person had a card that had one red side and one blue side. In the final battle, last year’s champion, Maya Chou, faced off against Chrissy Chou. DJ Afuro George dropped BLACKPINK’s ‘How You Like That’ and the dancers went at it. Chrissy Chou, called the smiling waacking goddess, ended up the champion who will head to South Africa for the Dance Your Style finals at the end of 2021.
Chrissy said of her victory, "I was more relaxed because I was on the stage with familiar people. It wasn’t a battle. It was more like performing on stage with my brothers and sisters and I really enjoyed it! I am both excited and nervous about going abroad to compete in South Africa at the end of the year, and I look forward to competing with global street dancers on the stage!"
