A decade ago, Akeem Jahat established himself as an avant-garde Hip Hop artist with clever wordplay on his mixtape SeluDOPE. Ten years later, Akeem has reimagined seven of the tracks by giving them new flows and arrangements and releasing it to all streaming platforms as 53LUDOPE.

“I think we pretty much vandalized the project,” Akeem said in a joking manner when asked about remaking the songs from scratch. Of all the tracks, ‘MULA DARI BAWAH KOLONG FLAT’ means the most to Akeem. This song, loosely translated to English means ‘started from the basement,’ shows how Akeem has gone from rags to riches. “I remember writing this when we had nothing. This reimagined version means a lot to me, since everything I have today is manifested in this song.”

Akeem dropped SeluDOPE on his YouTube channel in 2014. Soon after, the mixtape became a critical success and he was working with some of the best rappers in the region including Joe Flizzow, Sona One, Hullera, and many more. 53LUDOPE is a throwback to that time a decade ago, but also a tribute to the fans who have been with him since day one.
