In previous versions of the Juno Awards, South Asian Artists have been recognized for their contributions to the Canadian music scene. 2024 saw Karan Aujla win the Fan Choice Award, so the Junos knew they had something big on their hands. For 2025, they announced the first-ever South Asian Music Recording of the Year.

At the ceremony, there were five nominees representing the diversity of the South Asian diaspora. The nominees were AP Dhillon for ‘Brownprint,’ Karan Aujla for ‘Tauba Tauba,’ Jonita Gandhi for ‘Love Like That,’ Sandeep Narayan & Yanchan Produced for ‘Arul’, and Chani Nattan, Inderpal Moga, and Jazzy B for ‘Coolin.’ In the end, AP Dhillon’s ‘Brownprint’ made history for the win, but that wasn’t the only feel-good story. Chani Nattan, Inderpal Moga, and Jazzy B did a live rendition of ‘Coolin,’ which ended up being one of the highlights of the whole Junos.

With these wins and live performances, Canadian-Punjab music is being recognized on a global scale.

Check out Chani Nattan, Inderpal Moga, and Jazzy B’s live version of ‘Coolin’ below.
