Everyone needs to see George Clinton at least once in their lives
The Funk legend is coming to Asia on Sunday September 14 at The Ombak Festival in Malaysia
If you appreciate music, seeing George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic live is a must, especially if you love Hip Hop, where Clinton is a foundational influence. Experiencing the wild performance will bring you closer to the roots of the genre that moves your soul.
The Ombak Festival in Malaysia on the Desaru Coast in Johor has done something that is close to impossible by bringing George and his band Parliament Funkadelic on Sunday, September 14. At 84 years of age, George Clinton isn’t getting any younger. This may be one of the last times to see a legend of this magnitude in person.
With a career that started in the 1950s [!!!], continued as a writer for Motown, and then went on to become a legend in Afrofuturism in the 1970s and 1980s, George is most well-known for being an inventor of the genre of Funk, along with James Brown and Sly Stone. To show how massive George Clinton’s influence has been, it’s basically impossible to know how many songs he’s been sampled in because his drums, kicks, guitar riffs, and horns are the backbone of Hip Hop.
The Ombak Festival’s lineup is tight all the way through with Simply Red, Joe Flizzow, SonaOne, Zamaera, Masia One & The Jah Jah Army all being highlights. But the big, big name on that bill is George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic. They have at least 16 performers on stage at once, and there is so much happening it’s a sensory overload in the funkiest way possible. Within minutes, people will understand that there ain’t no party like a Parliament Funkadelic party.
