Zion Williamson drops another pair of Naruto-themed Jordans

The New Orleans Pelicans star loves anime

The first-round pick of 2019’s NBA draft, Zion Williamson, is a towering and absolute powerhouse of an athlete. Standing at 6 ft 6, the 22-year-old is a force to be reckoned with. In the same year of his draft to the NBA, he signed a high profile sneaker deal with none other than Nike’s iconic basketball line, Jordan. The signing amounted to US$75 million in Zion’s pocket over seven years, which marks one of the highest-profile shoe deals since LeBron James’ in 2003 for $90 million.

When it all went down, Michael Jordan said, “He’s an essential part of the new talent that will help lead the brand into the future. He told us he would ‘shock the world’, and asked us to believe him. We do.”

If there’s any athlete right now who’s pushing out outlandish shoes, it’s Zion.

Williamson is a huge fan of anime, and this was displayed last year with his Naruto-themed collection. Following that, earlier this month, it was announced that yet another Naruto x Zion Williamson collaboration is set to drop soon. This time, it will be in the form of a pair of Jordan 37s.

Official images showcase the shoes bathed in blue, taking inspiration from the color of a Rasengan, a spinning ball of chakra used in the anime by Natuto. The chakra ball is also printed on the shoe’s insoles. Claw markings are also on the ankle while Natuto’s catchphrase, “だってばよ!” [Believe it] is printed on the tongue.

If there’s anyone to believe in with the new generation of NBA stars, it’s Zion.
