Spence Lee lays down his ‘Foundation’ on brand new single

The Chinese-Vietnamese MC is back with his first single of 2024

Spence Lee first introduced himself to the world of Hip Hop back in 2016, with a brilliant 15-track album Upfall. The Chinese-Vietnamese, New Jersey-raised MC then took a little break, before releasing the album 1012 in 2019.

2020, however, marked a stark change in Spence Lee’s trajectory as an MC – it was the year where he dropped the Eardrummers-produced ‘ARRIBA,' released through 88rising. Fast forward to 2024 and Spence released his first single of the year, ‘Foundation,’ via the same venture.

It’s a two-minute slow-burning heater. There aren’t any crazy beat switches or energy-shifting moments, but ‘Foundation’ taps deeply into Lee’s psyche and morals, with lyrics that point directly to it. “God and my family is my foundation/I don’t make any moves out of desperation.”

An accompanying music video was also released on the track’s release date, which was shot entirely in Saigon, Vietnam, the country where Spence Lee has his roots. It features cinematic shots of Saigon, along with cuts of its city life and all that comes with it.
