88rising’s main stage takeover at Coachella has caused ripples throughout the whole world. In Thailand, more than 13,000 miles away from the concert, sales of mango sticky rice have gone through the roof. 19-year-old rapper MILLI took a few bites of Thailand’s national dessert right before performing her song of the same name, and it delighted many in the crowd, as well as those watching on the livestream in her own country.

This cold dessert is most popular during March and April, Thailand’s hottest months, and sales figures of this cold desert made of chunks of mangos and sweet sticky rice have exploded in the last week. An owner of a shop serving this desert said that his sales have gone up by 100 percent. He also said that he turned off delivery apps because his shop was so busy. A customer waiting in line for the mango sticky rice said she watched MILLI’s performance and has eaten the dessert every day since then.

Thailand’s Prime Minister, Prayuth Chan-ocha, heard about the popularity of mango sticky rice created by MILLI and has said that he plans to make it an intangible cultural heritage of humanity by UNESCO.
