The 4 times that Jujutsu Kaisen reps Hip Hop

The trendy anime has been praised for its distinctive music choices

Jujutsu Kaisen is the newest crown prince of the post-Naruto era. Adapted from the hit manga series published in the Weekly Shōnen Jump from 2018, Jujutsu Kaisen has been unstoppable since the anime was initially released in October of 2020.

Following protagonist Yuji Itadori’s adventure as he embarks down the path of becoming a Jujutsu sorcerer, Jujutsu Kaisen is action-packed with fluid visual effects, timely comedic writing, and an ear-pleasing soundtrack. Unlike most shounen anime that amp up the audience’s emotions with punchy rock music, Jujutsu Kaisen’s soundtrack is heavily influenced by EDM, R&B, and Hip Hop.

Composed by young talents including Hiroaki Tsutsumi, Yoshimasa Terui, and Arisa Okehazama, the OST has some catchy raps performed by Aztech, Parnom, and Kasper, who all have diverse musical backgrounds. LiFTED has chosen four eclectic tracks from the newly-released soundtrack to give you a taste of the dark yet fantastical world of Jujutsu Kaisen.

Life is not the kind of song you will find in a typical shounen anime given its jumpstyle texture, yet it works like a charm with the visuals of Jujutsu Kaisen. Think buzzy electronic music mashing with a fun Rap verse.

Classic Boom Bap basslines never disappoint. Colors is a one-minute lyrical bomb as Aztech references Korean culture and legendary rapper DMC.

Occult Phenomenon Research Club

This jumpy track appears in the first episode, which really helps set the tone of the anime. Composer Hiroaki Tsutsumi layers jaunty keyboard sounds and frisky under Paranom’s bars for a mysterious vibe.

Beware of the feisty rapper coming through! This high-energy rap track, which appears during one of the most intense fight sequences between Nobara Kugisaki and villainous monster, features Japanese rapper RIN. The hard rock elements mixed with RIN’s lively raps are just like Jujutsu Kaisen - not to be missed.
