Six years have passed since Rihanna released her last album, ANTI. The global megastar has gone on to do and accomplish so many things in that time.

In 2017, she launched Fenty Beauty, an inclusive cosmetics company that focused on providing a wide range of products for all types of skin tones. Fenty Beauty, which is named after Rihanna’s last name, has become a household name in the cosmetic world. With her shares in Fenty Beauty, Rihanna has been named the youngest self-made billionaire by Forbes at the age of 34. She also gave birth to a boy earlier this year in May, with A$AP Rocky as the baby daddy.

With the recent announcement of her playing the Super Bowl halftime show and rumors of a world tour, there had to be some music coming, right? On Friday, October 28, fans were finally treated to her return to the music world with ‘Lift Me Up,’ the lead single for the official soundtrack of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

The song was released via Rihanna’s Westbury Road, in partnership with Roc Nation, Def Jam Recordings, and Hollywood Records. The three-minute track is a poignant one, as it was written in celebration of Chadwick Boseman, who passed away in 2020 due to colon cancer. It was co-written by Nigerian singer-songwriter Tems, Oscar winner Ludwig Göransson, screenwriter Ryan Coogler, and Rihanna herself.

In a press release statement, Tems shared: “I wanted to write something that portrays a warm embrace from all the people I’ve lost in my life. Rihanna has been an inspiration to me so hearing her convey this song is a great honor.”
