Unpretty Rapstar: Hip Hop Princess to premier October 16
The ultimate goal is an all-female Korean-Japanese Hip Hop group
A lot of times, reality Rap shows are sausage fests. Guys have the patience to sit around and freestyle all day, while women have better things to do. This changes for Unpretty Rapstar: Hip Hop Princess, which premieres on October 16. The Mnet show will have 40 participants mixed between Korean and Japanese descent with a goal of making a Hip Hop group.
While Unpretty Rapstar: Hip Hop Princess is touting the diversity of their participants, the contestants’ average age is 17 years old. There are those who are in the modeling or music world, but also winners of cheerleading competitions and teens who write and produce their own music.
The reality competition is focusing on breaking down the barriers between the Hip Hop, K-pop, and J-pop scenes. Music is the main focus, but choreography, styling, and video production will be taken into consideration from the judges. Combining two countries is an interesting wrench thrown into the mix because audiences could bond with people from other cultures, or they could become nationalistic and only vote for their own kind.
