On August 9, Taiwan’s Turntable Jam brought together some of the country’s best turntablists for a scratch jam, battle, and showcase, capped off by a set from 2025 DMC World Champion DJ Fummy of Japan. The night started with 2014 Red Bull 3Style Taiwan champion DJ DinDin [張為鈞] and GTER showing that turntable skills only get sharper with time.

Then it was time for the scratch battle, with DJ Fummy, DJ QuestionMark, and DJ Afro serving as judges. More than 30 contestants were given the same sound to scratch for eight bars, with the judges scoring each performance and sending the top eight through to the finals.

While the finalists prepared, DJ Book, Tofu, and Wellshi stepped up for showcase sets of their own. In the final round, the DJs went head-to-head for 45 seconds, with the judges deciding who advanced. Eventually, DJ Wellshi emerged as the Turntable Jam champion, earning a huge reaction from the crowd.

After the competition, DJ Fummy took over the decks and showed exactly why he’s one of the most entertaining turntablists around.

Fummy has always mixed technical ability with showmanship. When he competed for the Red Bull 3Style world title in Taipei in 2018, he famously ate sushi off the platters with one hand while repeatedly cutting up Post Malone’s “I just ordered sushi from Japan” line from Tiësto and Dzeko’s ‘Jackie Chan.’

Turntable Jam gave him a different kind of stage. With no competition pressure, Fummy was free to experiment, play around, and work through ideas alongside the routines he has already mastered.

For roughly 40 minutes, he delivered tricks, scratches, routines, and wordplay in a loose, free-flowing set that kept the crowd locked in. It was the perfect ending to a night that proved scratch DJing isn’t simply surviving in Taipei. It’s inspiring a new generation to get behind the decks.
