Trout Fresh 呂士軒 nabs 2 Golden Melody Awards, debuts track ‘輸了就剃光頭’

“Mom, this is the closest I’ve ever been to Jay Chou.”

Trout Fresh 呂士軒 is entering his superstar era. Over the weekend, the Taiwanese Hip Hop artist nabbed two of the top Golden Melody Awards, Best Male Singer and Best Mandarin Album. Once he was on stage, he hilariously quipped, “Mom, this is the closest I’ve ever been to Jay Chou.”

Joining the rarified air of Hip Hop artists who have won over more well-known singers at the Golden Melody Awards like E.So, Soft Lipa, and MC Hot Dog, Trout Fresh 呂士軒 has been out on the streets grinding as a solo artist and part of his group, Smash Regz. When a Hip Hop artist wins, it’s always big news since most of the Best Male Singer awards go to Pop crooners from Taiwan, China, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Singapore, or Korea.

Knowing he was nominated but thinking he wasn’t going to win, Trout Fresh 呂士軒 cashed in on the hoopla and released ‘輸了就剃光頭’ last week, which translated to English means “If you lose, you’ll shave your head.” In the video, he raps, “Tell me how to lose” while being chased by 30 baldheads who look a lot like he does, Slim Shady style. The song has a Poppy and Bouncy feel, signaling that this may be the way forward for the underground Hip Hop artist as he’s landed in the mainstream.
