There goes the neighborhood
KAWS:HOLIDAY set to return to Asia this November with a friend
The skyline in Singapore is one of the grandest in Asia with the Central Business District at the heart of it. The granddaddy of them all, the Marina Bay Sands, has its floating pool 57 floors above the ground. Other notable views include Merlion Park, Esplanade, and of course the observation wheel, the Singapore Flyer.
For eight days in November, all of these dazzling places will have a new neighbor - COMPANION - KAWS’ 42-meter signature character. AllRightsReserved and the Singapore Tourism Board will be presenting KAWS:HOLIDAY from November 13 to 21 at The Float at Marina Bay.
Not only will art lovers in Singapore be treated to the experience of seeing COMPANION in real life, but the massive art installation will be in a new position - reclining and embracing a miniature version of itself. This means that the series of limited-edition collectibles created for this exhibition will be worth crazy amounts if people can get their hands on one.
KAWS’ HOLIDAY has had stops in Seoul, Taipei, and Hong Kong, as well as the UK as a hot air balloon, and it even traveled to outer space. KAWS’ stated goal is to create a public appreciation and excitement for the arts.
KAWS said in a press release, “At a time when international travel may be challenging for many, I am thankful for the opportunity through the ongoing HOLIDAY project to bring art experiences to different localities, and am excited to come to Singapore for the first time.”
