Thai VG released his long-awaited album PURPOSE last week, choosing 'War and Peace' as its standout single. The track, featuring Suboi, distills his storytelling strengths and opens a new chapter in his sound.

Unlike the harder, West Coast-inflected beats that have long been his signature, ‘WAR AND PEACE’ leans into something far more melodic. The production carries a Pop sensibility with lighter and structured arrangements that center on soaring hooks. At its core, the song is deeply autobiographical. Thai VG reflects on the battles he has fought both within the rap game and inside his own mind, and how those struggles ultimately shaped his sense of peace. The chorus hammers that truth in a mantra-like repetition, “Had to go to war to find my peace.”

Suboi’s guest verse adds depth to the song’s emotional palette. Singing and rapping with her signature fluidity, she turns the narrative inward, capturing moments of doubt and resilience. Her lines float between Vietnamese and English, adding texture and grounding the song in the realities of their shared world. Together, the two artists balance vulnerability with strength, creating something that resonates as both a personal confession and a universal anthem.

‘WAR AND PEACE’ is the emotional anchor of PURPOSE. It demonstrates Thai VG’s ability to step outside his comfort zone without losing his identity. With this album, he’s pushing into Pop-leaning territory while doubling down on the authenticity that first made him an OG of the Vietnamese Rap scene.
