Takashi Murakami has a field of flowers for your feet with Ohana Hatake slides
The Japanese artist has a new creative venture
The signature motif that Japanese artist Takashi Murakami has always used has been flowers. Tons and tons of flowers. Now, he’s got his own slipper brand called Ohana Hatake, which when translated means field of flowers. These aren’t your run-of-the-mill slides you can get at any Costco. Instead, people are put into a raffle to see who is lucky enough to buy the US$120 slippers injected with EVA foam for extra comfort.
After jumping on a track with JP The Wavy as one half of the MNNK BROS, Takashi has gone in a totally different direction with his latest creative venture. He said, “I am pursuing an expression that explores the very relationship between American and Japanese cultures. I would love it if those who wear these sandals could sense how this team managed to craft something wonderful out of my quirky, off-the-mark ideas.”
At the moment, there are only four colors for the Ohana Full Bloom slippers - Raspberry Rose, Apricot, Blazing Yellow, and Island Green. But Takashi’s flowers always have 12 petals, so be prepared for more colors coming very soon.
