Takashi Murakami teams up with the MLB for Tokyo Series collection
It’s only fitting that Japan’s most-loved artist is designing limited-edition merch
If it feels like the Los Angeles Dodgers just won the World Series, it’s because they did. But that was back in October, and now a new season awaits. Two teams, the Dodgers and the Chicago Cubs, kick off the Major League Baseball [MLB] season with two games at the Tokyo Dome on March 18 and 19.
Like any big or unique sporting event, there has to be merch, and the MLB got Japan’s most-loved artist, Takashi Murakami, to design some limited edition T-shirts, hoodies, jerseys, hats, trading cards, and more. All the items will have Murakami’s iconic flowers with vibrant colors, making the items must-haves for collectors and baseball fans alike.
Murakami said in a press release, "I think this new collection builds upon the historical friendship between Japan and the United States. I feel lucky to be able to work alongside Complex and the MLB, and highlight Shohei Ohtani, an outstanding athlete who has emerged from Japan and made a name for himself on the global stage. This is something I am overwhelmed with gratitude to be a part of."
While there will be shops at the games selling the limited edition merch, some will be put on the side for internet orders here.
