Suglawd Familiar teams up with Minmi to fight off dissolving into society with ‘Blue Jeans’
A tale of figuring out how to get older gracefully
Suglawd Familiar were getting close to being done with their debut album, FURAAMAN ANTHEM, but they had one request for a guest appearance–Japanese Hip Hop, Reggae, and Soca musician Minmi. Eventually, their dream collab happened, and ‘Blue Jeans’ is now out.
‘Blue Jeans’ is not just a story of fashion. Instead, the rappers in Suglawd Familiar were worried about getting older and dissolving into society. Minmi explained to them that maturing doesn’t mean losing themselves. Instead, each person is like a pair of aging denim jeans that have a bit of wear and tear, rips, stains, and some fading because those things actually give it more character.
Even though the subject matter is a bit deep, the song is light and airy with a nice bounce. Rappers OHZKEY and MENEW technically turned it down as they wrote in a style of their younger selves, which meshes with Minmi’s singing perfectly.
