It’s been six years since one of Taiwan’s OG rappers, Soft Lipa, released his last proper studio album, Home Cookin [家常音樂]. On August 13, he returned with ‘給我一點時間’ [‘Give Me a Little Time’], an eight-minute ode to his hometown of Tainan and the first taste of another full-length project in the next one or two months.

Released in 2020, Home Cookin went on to become one of the defining albums of Soft Lipa’s career. At the 2021 Golden Melody Awards, he took home Best Mandarin Male Singer, Best Mandarin Album, and Best Music Video. Since then, Soft Lipa has continued to work at his own pace releasing an instrumental album and doing a lot of shows,but there’s never been much point trying to predict his release schedule. That makes a new album announcement feel especially significant.

‘給我一點時間’ begins slowly, with the journey itself becoming part of the story as Soft Lipa makes his way toward Tainan. By the time the track fully kicks in, he’s back in familiar territory: understated, conversational, technically sharp, and completely comfortable in his own skin. Across three verses, he reminds listeners why his unhurried style and everyday observations have made him such an enduring figure in Taiwan Hip Hop.
