shauharty’s ‘Saddam Hussainé’: Art House Hip Hop blurring the lines between Reels & reality
In a world full of performers, the most dangerous act is telling the truth
In modern times, it seems that nearly every individual is obsessed with their image, influence, and self-worth. Up-and-coming Desi rapper shauharty has just independently dropped the first single of his upcoming mixtape, Farookh, called ‘Saddam Hussainé.’ It is a 12-minute-long art house video interspersed with Indie Hip Hop and scathing satirical takes on clout-driven culture.
‘Saddam Hussainé’ is an emblem of ruthless power and blind narcissism. Like the former dictator, the main character in the video is intoxicated with his own voice and absorbed by his own ego. He’s on a search for a mysterious briefcase, and in the wake of his shenanigans, he learns how to let go.

The 12-minute video, directed by Sheikh Zaid Bin Naseer, has the feel of an Indian spaghetti western on psychedelics lost between reels and reality. shauharty’s rapping feels like he’s chasing vulnerability, and instead of playing by the rules, he’s here to flip the table over no matter who is sitting on the other side.
In a press release, shauharty said, “It’s about the unaddressed narcissism of a loser. Oftentimes as artists, we get too consumed in ourselves, and tend to lose touch with actuality, but the hook reminds him—and all of us—that power built on delusion is always fragile.”
