“Quake! Quake! Quake! Quake!”: Taiwanese B-boy takes first place at Outbreak Europe 2024

The Olympic competitor prevailed over 500 dancers

Summer 2024 has been a wild ride for Taiwan’s B-boy Quake. He’s been traveling all over the world doing what he loves, and he’s finally getting the global recognition he deserves.

Quake wasn’t ranked very highly when he decided he wanted to go to the Olympics. He trained, competed, and battled his way to the 16 to get an invite to the 2024 Summer Paris Games. In Paris, he did all right but didn’t get to the finals there. Sometimes it’s all about the journey.

Instead of going home and basking in the Olympic parade that the athletes had in Taiwan, Quake stayed in Europe. Last week his crew City4 came in second in the Netherlands’ Notorious IBE 2024. This set him up for victory in the 1vs 1 category at Outbreak Europe 2024 in Slovakia. After taking a hit from his Boba Tea, Quake defeated B-boy Raptor from the Ukraine in the final battle.

For B-boy Quake, Outbreak Europe is very special because he competed there in 2019 and was beaten by his favorite B-boy, Lil G from Venezuela. After winning the title and the NT$17,000 prize, Quake said, "I admire how B-boy Lil G has used breakdancing to showcase Venezuela to the world, so I jokingly said I wanted to become the Wang Chien-ming of breakdancing, hoping to use breakdancing to make the world recognize Taiwan as well. Dancing is like that. As your soul matures, it reflects on your dance which becomes more mature. After this baptism, I feel I have grown a lot."
