Last year, the biggest event in global Hip Hop was the 50th anniversary of the birth of Hip Hop at Kool Herc’s party on August 11, 1973. This year, the biggest event in Hip Hop is going to be on August 9 and 10 [coincidence?] in Paris, France as Breaking makes its debut as an Olympic sport at the Summer 2024 games.

At this time, only six of the 16 slots for male and female [32 total] have been filled. Big stars like Phil Wizard, B-girl Sunny, B-girl 671, and B-boy Shigekix have won events to qualify for the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics. There are only 10 spots left, and 40 B-boys and 40 B-girls will spend the next three months trying to qualify for those coveted slots.

Taiwan’s B-boy hope, Quake Chen, who will be competing under the Chinese Taipei banner, posted a video that he had qualified for the Olympic Qualifying Series because he was ranked in the top 40 in the World Dance Sport Federation. While the competitions are starting in March, the two biggest will be in Shanghai from May 16 to 19 and in Budapest from June 20 to 23.
