Eight years ago, Jaden Smith, son of Will and Jada Smith, put out the song and video for ‘Icon.’ In it, he has a gold chain around his neck, and raps in front of a Tesla Model X with the falcon wing doors. He got some nepo-baby flack at the time, but now the video has nearly 200 million views so he’s proven himself to be right.

On June 4, Japanese MC NENE released ‘ICON,’ where she manifests what she wants. As a member of the influential underground rap duo Yurufuwa Gang, NENE took a lot of creative chances with videos and music. As a solo artist, she’s been highly successful because she has an I-don’t-give-an-F attitude, proving she doesn’t need to be the typical Kawaii to thrive in Japan’s music industry.

In ‘ICON,’ NENE shows off a few different looks from the disheveled Prom Queen heading to a party to the alternative Greek goddess on the streets of Tokyo. Besides her visual creativity, NENE also got flows for days. She’s in ‘ICON’ proving her words to be true when she is rapping on a Bōsōzoku, a rebellious motorcycle parked in the middle street that is anti-establishments as it gets.
