Leon Fanourakis & Taka Perry go off the rails on ‘EXPRESS’
The Land of the Rising Sun can be called the land of rising stars
One of the things that is so amazing about Japan is the train system, especially the express trains that can take people from place to place at 320 kilometers an hour. Two of Japan’s most exciting new talents, MC Leon Fanourakis and MC/producer Taka Perry incorporate live recordings of Tokyo’s rail system in their latest track ‘EXPRESS’ to build tension and create a sonically arresting sound.
With alarms going off from the jump, the beat for ‘EXPRESS’ sounds like a horror movie soundtrack that lives in the space between Jersey and Trap. Leon’s vocals are a double-time whisper that adds to the urgency. The video directed by Red Moons fits the sound perfectly as both Leon and Taka push their way through Tokyo’s train system in black and white. There are enough grainy special effects that remind viewers of its influence, ‘Firestarter’ by The Prodigy.
For the past three years, Leon and Taka have forged a creative partnership and made a lot of music together. This will all come out soon when they release GRIFFIN TAPES, a unique EP from the two rising Japanese stars with special features. Taka said, “We’d collected a lot of great demos, so we decided we should just drop a whole record together.”
